How Adjustable Intensity Polarized Sunglass Work:

Unpolarized sunlight is made up of waves that vibrate in all directions perpendicular to its path. A sunlight polarizing lens allows only waves that vibrate in directions parallel to its optical grain. After the polarized sunlight passes through the first lens, it will be completely absorbed by the second lens if its optical grain is set at 90 degrees to the grain of the first lens.
